EASTER WEEKEND: Northern Cape Police all ready for Easter

Northern Cape Police launch an Arrive Alive Road Safety Campaign in preparation for the upcoming Easter long weekend.

The Northern Cape South African Police Services (SAPS) launched the 2023 Easter Arrive Alive Road Safety Campaign on the 04 April 2023 on the N7 weighbridge  Road in Springbok ahead of the coming Easter holidays.

The MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison (DTSL), in the Northern Cape, Nomandla Bloem was accompanied by the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola.

Joining them was Executive Mayor of Namakwa District, Counsellor M. Cloete and the Speaker of the Nama Khoi Local Municipality, Rodney Kritzinger.

The SAPS Chaplain M Baard opened with relayed that Law Enforcement officials during this Easter holidays and beyond may Arrive Alive, awake and alert as they execute their duties during this long weekend.

The Head of Department for DTSL, Rodney Pieterse had the duty to deliver the purpose of the day.

He spoke about the dangers and continuous occurrence of serious road accidents on the N7 road and also remarked the immense importance of the road safety campaign.

Words of motivation from different stakeholders

The Chairperson of the National Council for Persons with Disabilities gave a motivational speech at the campaign.

He is also a victim of a motor vehicle accident that left him paralyzed and wheelchair bound, 29 years ago.

Several messages of support were also relayed by stakeholders such as the Deputy Provincial Chairperson of SANTAGO Lina Simboyia and Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola.

“We will experience an influx of visitors into our province hence police and relevant stakeholders will be out in full force to vigorously ensure the safety and security of people on and off the road during and beyond this Easter period. The SAPS will adopt a zero tolerance approach when it comes to drinking and driving and drinking in public and intensify roadblocks and vehicle check points on all roads leading into and out of the province during this critical period.”

MEC Nomadla Bloem’s keynote address relayed that the campaign is focused on the heightened traffic on the roads.

Hence road safety education and promotion of good road usage will be at the order throughout the campaign.

MEC also highlighted main routes in the province which are notorious for accidents and reiterated that they should work together to Arrive Alive during this long weekend holiday campaign and beyond.
