Dan Marokane set to become the new Eskom CEO – Report

Tongaat Hullet acting executive Dan Marokane is reportedly the next chief executive officer for embattled power utility Eskom.

The position was vacant after Andre de Ruyter left.

WILL DAN MAROKANE BE THE NEW CEO?

Former Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter was let go early in February after Eskom called a special board meeting on 22 February. The parties reached a mutual agreement that he would leave before his notice period came to an end.

The special board meeting came on the heels of a bombshell television interview in which De Ruyter made many allegations about rampant corruption at the power utility, including that it is a “feeding trough for the ANC” and that criminal cartels in Mpumalanga are feeding off Eskom.

According to Bloomberg Marokane however,the Department of Public Enterprises has not confirmed the reports.

According to Tongaat Hullet Marokane is a seasoned executive with over 20 years in the oil, gas and power industries in various operational and strategic leadership roles.

The 50-year-old was previously the Chairman of Eskom Enterprises Board, and the Eskom Roshcon and Rotek Industries Board. He also served as a member of the UK High Commission Management Board in South Africa and is a member of the University of Johannesburg Engineering Advisory Board.

He joined Tongaat Hulett as an executive in January 2018 and carried various responsibilities as the organisation embarked on the turnaround journey and was appointed to the Tongaat Hulett Board on 18 November 2019.
