EFF 2.0? DA walks out of Parliament, Jimmy Manyi kicked out

In true Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) style, the Democratic Alliance (DA) walked out of Parliament amid a debate on the appointment of the next Public Protector.
The National Assembly is currently meeting to debate on whether or not nominated Public Protector Advocate Kholeka Gcaleka is a suitable candidate for the Chapter 9 institution.

In August this year, the Ad Hoc Committee nominated Gcaleka as the next Public Protector after eight candidates were shortlisted for the position and did interviews.
Gcaleka has been acting as the Public Protector for over a year since the suspension of Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane.
During the debate, DA MP Glynnis Breytenbach said none of the shortlisted candidates met the minimum requirements and the vacancy should be advertised again. She further made a sexist remark about Gcaleka.
“Now Ms Gcaleka does not come to this point without a past her very cosy relationship and some say intimate relationship the rather odious Menzi Simelani, led to speedy promotions and her very active role in support of the capture of the NPA,” she said.
Simelane is the former Director of Public Prosecutions in the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
Speaker, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula asked Breytenbach to withdraw her statement and she refused.
DA Chief Whip Siviwe Gwarube accused Mapisa-nqakula of using the wrong rule to kick out Breytenbach and all the party’s MPs walked out amid the debate.
Meanwhile, EFF MP Mzwanele Manyi was kicked out of the proceedings after he referred to MPs as thugs who do not know anything and refused to withdraw his statement.
Manyi said he would rather walk out than be in the same room as thugs.

GCALEKA CLEARS RAMAPHOSA OF WRONGDOING
Gcaleka came under fire after she cleared President Cyril Ramaphosa of wrongdoing in the Phala Phala farm saga.
Gcaleka said considering the evidence in its entirety and the application of the law there is no basis to exalt such deliberations to a degree where it can be held that there existed a potential conflict of interest in the part of the president regarding his duty as the head of Cabinet and his interests in the cattle farming at Phala Phala farm in violation of the code.
“No evidence could be found to underpin a finding or a conclusion that the president’s utterances in the regard were a continuous act to be considered or construed as active involvement in the business or paid work,” Gcaleka said.
