Solly Msimanga has been re-elected as DA leader in Gauteng, and he declared that he will fight to unseat the ANC in Gauteng.

Solly Msimanga has been re-elected as DA leader in Gauteng.

After defeating Khume Ramulifho, a DA member of the Gauteng assembly, the former mayor of Tshwane declared that he will lead the largest fight to unseat the ANC in Gauteng.

Msimanga remarked in his acceptance speech that the 2024 elections will be similar to the 1994 elections for millions of people who were still unemployed, destitute, and unable to engage in the economy.

He called for a halt to internal squabbles that had the potential to fracture the official opposition on the eve of the national general elections next year.

“I’d like to inform you that the internal competition is over. Tomorrow is the first day of door-to-door sales. Registration will open tomorrow. “The attack begins tomorrow,” he told conference participants in Johannesburg.

Msimanga said he would be the one to tell current premier Panyaza Lesufi to pack his bags next year.

How many votes did DA get in Gauteng in 2019?

The party has a mountain to climb if it is to unseat the ANC in the province. The DA won just 27.4% of the vote in Gauteng in 2019.

It has also battled to manage stable coalitions which would have kept it in power in all Gauteng metro.

Today the ANC, which won just 33.6% of the vote in Johannesburg, leads the coalition that runs the city – after the DA-led coalition was unseated.

Msimanga stated that he will be the one to tell incumbent Prime Minister Panyaza Lesufi to leave next year.

The party faces a difficult task if it is to unseat the ANC in the province. Only the DA was successful.

Gauteng received 27.4% of the vote in 2019.
It has also struggled to form durable coalitions that would have kept it in power across all Gauteng metros.

After the DA-led coalition was deposed, the ANC now leads the alliance that governs Johannesburg, despite receiving only 33.6% of the vote.
