Bitter cold: Wet and windy weather spell from Monday to Thursday

Maximum temperatures could plummet below 10C in parts, accompanied by gusts of up to 80km/h throughout the week.

The South African Weather Service’s (SAWS) very cold, wet and windy advisory for the Western Cape and Northern Cape is valid from Monday, 12 June, until Thursday, 15 June. The colder weather is associated with a series of cold fronts expected to affect the provinces throughout the week.

WEATHER ADVISORY FOR WESTERN CAPE AND NORTHERN CAPE

The weather service said daytime temperatures will drop significantly from Monday due to the cold fronts.

“Maximum temperatures may be below 10C in places over the Namakwa district (Northern Cape) and interior of the Western Cape from today until Thursday,” said the weather service.

Windy conditions will accompany the wet and cold weather. As previously reported, a Yellow Level 2 wind warning is also in effect in the Western Cape until Thursday.

Westerly to northwesterly winds of 50 to 70km/h, gusting up to 80km/h, are expected throughout the week.

  • The temperature may feel colder than it is due to the wind chill factor.
