The Pyramid Substation in the City of Tshwane has been completely rebuilt after it was recently damaged by fire.

The City of Tshwane announced that the recently damaged by fire Pyramid Substation has been rebuilt and that power has been restored to all affected areas following the historic severe storms that swept through parts of the metropolitan municipality on Wednesday, 20 September 2023.

How many days did it take to rebuild the substation?

Tshwane spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said, the substation was successfully rebuilt in just 18 days.

“The substation was successfully reconstructed in just 18 days, which is a remarkable feat of engineering and construction. The project, which entailed removing damaged building materials such panels, feeder cables, circuit breakers, a 132 kV isolator, and important transformer components, was expertly finished on time,” said Mashigo.

The impacted areas power was restored as a result of the engineering team’s round-the-clock efforts to restore the vital parts of the power distribution system.

The impacted homes were continuously updated throughout the outage on how the restoration efforts were going.

The City of Tshwane extended its deepest apologies for any difficulty or annoyance brought on by the process of construction.

What did City of Tshwane report last week?

The City of Tshwane reported last week, that the Pyramid Substation has made significant progress, which bought hope that the construction would be done this week.

“630 incomer cable terminations have been successfully completed, representing an approximate 85% completion rate of the cable work. Cable jointing and termination have been performed on Panel 5, which has 150 cable feeders for the water treatment facility.

“The 150 m2 of feeder cables have now all been terminated and joined. A significant accomplishment is the connection and termination of all 240 m2 of feeder cables,” said the statement.
