PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA – FEBRUARY 01: Gauteng Premier David Makhura speaks during a media briefing by the Health Ombudsman to announce the final report on the Life Esidimeni psychiatric patients’ deaths on February 01, 2017 in Pretoria, South Africa. The report into the deaths of psychiatric patients transferred from Life Esidimeni healthcare revealed that 94 patients died and not 36 as recorded by the Gauteng Health Department. Health MEC; Qedani Mahlangu announced her resignation following the tragic incidents.

David Makhura is the premier of Gauteng and of course, an ANC member. If you’re going off the sign he recently wore on his head, then you can also believe that he is not captured. Yes, he really did wear a hat with a cut-out that says “not captured” on it.

During COSATU’s anti-corruption and anti-Zuma marches across the country on Wednesday, the Gauteng branch marched specifically to Makhura’s office.  The premier then addressed the crowd and even revealed what South Africa should so with those who are involved in corruption: They should be thrown in a “special jail”.

“Two weeks ago, I visited Brazil. It has a special prison for all those who are corrupt. We must build one similar prison.”

Aside from the hat, Makhura also explained how he was not captured, even though “they” had tried. While he didn’t mention the Guptas by name, he came pretty close.

“I am not captured. They tried and I refused to be captured.  State capture warranted the attention of us as leadership of government and alliance partners”.

He called on everyone in government to deal with State Capture and overcome it. Makhura received a list of demands from the protesters and vowed that a copy would be sent to President Zuma in the next few hours.

The COSATU march in Gauteng did not just go after the ANC though, protesters also marched to the City of Joburg’s headquarters to hand over a memorandum to DA Mayor Herman Mashaba. Marchers could be heard singing calling for Mashaba to go.

MMC for Safety Michael Sun received the memorandum but was hit with a xenophobic comments due to his Chinese origin.

Cosatu Gauteng Secretary Dumisani Dakile referred to Sun as a “fong kong,” a derogatory term used to associate Asians and something being “fake” or of poor quality.

While the match had its fair share of problems, do you think Makhura’s “Special jail” idea has any merit? Let us know in the Facebook comments.
