Breakthrough in the BRUTAL murder case of Gqeberha physical therapist

Police have made a breakthrough in the brutal murder case of physiotherapist, Marolien Schmidt. She was stabbed to death in her home in Gqeberha on Women’s Day.

BELOVED PHYSICAL THERAPIST MAROLIEN SCHMIDT WAS MURDERED IN HER HOME

According to police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg a 29 year-old man was arrested in central and is being detained for the murder that happened in Richmond Hill.

“The assiduousness of SAPS Humewood detectives in tracking the suspect involved in the brutal murder of Marolien paid off when a suspect was arrested during the early hours of this morning.”

She said the accused man is expected to appear in the Gqeberha magistrate court on Monday, 14 August 2023.

At approximately 01:40 in Sherlock Street, Richmond Hill, neighbours of the 40-year-old Marolien heard her screaming and the breaking of glass. 

NEIGHBOURS HEARD HER SCREAMING AND THE BREAKING OF GLASS

“They immediately responded and found her lying on the floor with multiple stab wounds. She was rushed to hospital but succumbed to her injuries.” 

Janse Van Rensburg said it was later established that the attacker gained entrance to the property by breaking a side window.

SHE WAS FOUND ON THE FLOOR WITH STAB WOUNDS

 “It is unclear what was taken during the attack and police are investigating a murder case.”

Meanwhile, neigbours, loved ones and community members held a wake for Marolien at her blue front door on Wednesday evening.

“We mourn Marolien’s death, we celebrate her life as a sport woman ( Iron man!) as a dynamic and excellent physiotherapist, an animal lover, supporter of the sick, her sharp sense of humour, her strong friend- and family ties, her determination to overcome Long Covid (and competed again in the 70, 3 Iron Man!) and last but not least, her dedication to the sport disciplines she participated in.”
