Convicted Facebook rapist Thabo Bester and his lover, Dr Nandipha Magudumana have landed in South Africa from Tanzania. According to several media reports, an aircraft believed to be carrying the couple as well as South African National Police Service (SAPS) officials touched down at Lanseria Airport in Johannesburg in the early hours of Thursday morning, 13 April 2023.
Bester and Magudumana fled the country earlier in March after details of their alleged plotting was uncovered by publication GroundUp and piqued the interest of law enforcement authorities who subsequently launched a manhunt for the prison escapee. Bester faked his death and escaped from a correctional facility in Mangaung, Free State in 2022.

DR NANDI AND THABO BESTER BACK IN SA – WHAT’S NEXT?
Now that they are back in the country, Dr Nandi and Thabo Bester will be brought to justice for their alleged actions. A delegation of SAPS officials travelled to Tanzania, where the couple was arrested together with a Mozambizan national, Zakaria Alberto.
According to several reports, Bester has been taken to the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre in Pretoria. Magudumana will face a string of charges, including for helping Bester escape prison.
Bester was believed to have died in a prison fire in Mangaung in 2022, where he had been serving time for rape and murder. However, a probe by news publication GroundUp revealed what is now known as a elaborate plot to help Bester escape prison and fake his death, with the help of his lover Dr Nandi Magudumana and correctional service officials.
On Friday, Bester, Magudumana and a Mozambican national were arrested by Tanzanian authorities. The trio was aprehended in Arusha, just 10 kilometres from the country’s border with Kenya. A South African delegation made up of Correctional Services and SAPS top brass landed in Tanzania on Monday, 10 April 2023, to facilitate the return of the trio to the country.
