Convicted rapist Thabo Bester and his alleged lover Dr Nandipha Magudumana who were arrested in Arusha, Tanzania are already in South Africa

The two landed at midnight on on Thursday, 13 April at the Lanseria Airport in Gauteng under heavy police guard.

LATEST ON THABO BESTER AND NANDIPHA MAGUDUMANA

As previously reported by The South African, Police Minister Bheki Cele said that Tanzanian police had followed the fugitives as they were leaving their hotel in a black SUV. They were arrested with a Mozambican national and were found in possession of several passports, with different names, and none of the passports had been stamped.

In an interview with Newzroom Afrika, National Police Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola revealed that Bester and Magudumana were still in Tanzania by Wednesday afternoon and that they are likely to be deported back to South Africa by Friday.

Masemola said an integrated team from various department was still looking at Tanzania’s legislation and how the two fugitives can be brought back to Mzansi.

“Indications say Friday, but I can’t guarantee it,” he said.

The Police Commissioner said he was positive that Bester and Magudumana will be deported back to South Africa saying it is a matter of looking at the legislation of the two countries and international law.

Masemola, Police Minister Bheki Cele and Justice Minister Ronald Lamola will hold a media briefing on Thursday to provide an update on the progress made on the deportation of Bester and Magudumana.

A 44-year-old man who is an employee contracted to a company that installs and maintains cameras at the Mangaung Correctional Centre is expected to appear in before the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court on Thursday, 13 April.

The man was arrested on Tuesday, 11 April and is facing charges of aiding and abetting a convicted prisoner to escape lawful custody, defeating the ends of justice as well as violation of a dead body.

On Tuesday, Nandipha’s father, Cornelius Sekeleni and a former G4S employee also appeared in court and are also facing the above mentioned charges.

Meanwhile, North West police also seized a white Porsche Cayenne believed to belong to Magudumana.

The vehicle was seized by the Gauteng SAPS Tracking Team in Lichtenburg, North West and a 28-year-old driver was taken into police custody for questioning.
