Bester escape: Dr Nandipha Magudumana and others to apply for bail

Four individuals, including Dr Nandipha Magudumana, who are accused of helping Thabo Bester escape, are expected to apply for bail.

Four of the individuals accused of helping the Facebook rapist Thabo Bester escape from the Mangaung Correctional Centre are expected to apply for bail in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 3 May.

State opposes bail for four accused in Thabo Bester escape case, including his lover

The State indicated it would oppose bail for Dr Nandipha Magudumana, who is Bester’s lover, and Senohe Matsoara, a former G4S employee,Teboho Lipholo, a CCTV camera technician who worked with the cameras at the MCC for a third party, and Motenyane Masukela, a G4S guard at the MCC.

The State was not opposed to bail for Magudumana’s father, Zolile Cornelius Sekeleni. He was granted R10 000 bail and is currently confined to Port Edward.

Sekeleni will return to court on 16 May, the same day Bester returns to the Bloemfontein Court.

Bester faked his death and slipped out of the MCC on 3 May 2022. He and Magudumana were arrested in Arusha, Tanzania, last month and deported to South Africa.

Meanwhile, the police recently arrested two more G4S employees for allegedly helping Bester escape. They are expected to make their first court appearance in Bloemfontein on Wednesday. Eight people have been arrested thus far, and the police have indicated more could follow.
