The final installment of the State Capture Commission’s report will not be completely ready by the end of February, Acting Chief Justice Raymond Zondo has announced. President Cyril Ramaphosa has already received the first two parts of the report, but ACJ Zondo says the final document, which is 1 500 pages long, is far from ready, less than two weeks before it is due to be sent to the Presidency.

“This is regrettable but this is due to a number of factors including the fact that the Chairperson had to take some time to prepare for his JSC interview for Chief Justice and to rest after that interview as well as the fact that he needs more time to go through further documents on certain topics submitted to him and that some of those who are assisting him with documents relating to the Report have needed more time to complete them or will submit them too close to the deadline or will need beyond the end of February to submit them,” said Professor Itumeleng Mosala, the Secretary of the Commission said in a statement.

ZONDO WANTS EXTENSION FOR FINAL STATE CAPTURE REPORT

Justice Raymond Zondo has already asked the Gauteng High Court for a two-month extension of the State Capture Commission’s term. But Zondo has given assurance that a report will be on President Cyril Ramaphosa’s desk, albeit it incomplete.

Zondo says if the extension is granted, the Commission will submit the balance of its report either at the end of April or part of it at the end of March and the last part at the end of April 2022.

“In conclusion it is hoped that all concerned will appreciate that the Report that the Commission will have delivered to the President by the end of February will, by any standards, be a substantial report,” Prof Mosala said.
