Malema says ‘good citizens’ Zuma, Mbeki and Motlanthe welcome in the EFF

Julius Malema, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader, indicated that the party would warmly welcome former President Jacob Zuma if he wanted to join the Red Berets – the same applies to anyone else.

SWITCHING ALLEGIANCES

The spokesperson of the Jacob Zuma Foundation, Mzwanele Manyi, recently made headlines when he quit the African Transformation Movement (ATM) for the EFF, which led to some members of the public jokingly wondering if the Foundation’s namesake would follow suit.

Speaking in Carletonville during a trip to the Zanele Mtshali Disability Home as part of the EFF’s 10th-anniversary celebrations, Malema said Zuma could not be punished forever, referring to the latter’s chequered past.

MALEMA SAYS ZUMA, OTHER FORMER PRESIDENTS WELCOME

“If President Zuma comes and joins the EFF, he’ll be welcome. I think very soon I’ll be going to see him, I must give him a form to join,” said Malema, per SABC News.

The EFF leader added that he would also give former Presidents Thabo Mbeki and Kgalema Motlanthe membership forms.

“They are good citizens of the country, and I think President Zuma has paid his dues. I mean, I said yesterday, the highest form of punishment you can give a sitting president is to ensure that they don’t end their term of office,” said Malema.
