The eThekwini Municipality has announced an 11-hour planned water supply shutdown that will affect most areas in the Central Business District (CBD) on Tuesday, 29 March 2022.

Residents and businesses shutdown will be effective from 29 March from 7pm throughout the night until 6am the following morning, 30 March 2022.

WATER SHUTDOWN IN ETHEKWINI CBD

The municipality said the shutdown is due to a tie-in of the 800mm diameter steel pipe being laid into the existing 750mm steel pipe located at the corner of Anton Lembede Street and Alexandra Street.

As a result, the Montille Reservoir supplying water to the CBD will be affected.

“Most parts of the CBD will experience water shortages during this process.

“The Municipality apologises for the inconvenience caused and appeals to residents to use water sparingly.”

LESUFI SADDENED BY DROWNING OF GAUTENG PUPILS AT A DURBAN BEACH

Police in Durban, KZN have confirmed that the bodies of two teen rugby players washed up on shore earlier this morning. The pair, who were in the region for a schools tournament, were aged 17 and 18 respectively – and the drowning incident has left a local community reeling.

The bodies were found at the Laguna Beach and Country Club, in eThekwini.

Multiple inquest dockets have been opened by local authorities, who remain mystified by the tragic discovery. Next of kin have been contacted, and the names of the boys have not yet been made public.

Gauteng Education MEC said Psycho-Social unit has been dispatched to counsel the school community of Hoerskool Birchleigh and this counselling will continue upon return of the learners from Durban.

“It’s disheartening that a positive sporting school trip that our learners passionately participated in ended in such a tragic manner. We convey our most heartfelt condolences to the two affected families and the school community at large,” Lesufi said.
