Here we go again! Eskom has announced the implementation of stage six load shedding from Tuesday evening, 20 December 2022, from 20:00 until 05:00 on Wednesday morning.

The embattled power utility says the move is necessary to replenish the dam levels at the pumped storage power station and ensure generation capacity for the next two days or so.

“This is necessary to ensure sufficient generation capacity is available tonight to replenish the dam levels at the pumped storage power station so that this capacity will be available during the day tomorrow,” said Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha in a brief statement.

Eskom says stage four load shedding will then kick in immediately after the end of stage six on Wednesday morning, but there is no word on whether the rolling blackouts will be reduced at any stage.

“The breakdown of 6 generating units during the day has necessitated the escalation in the loadshedding stage. Eskom will publish a further update should any significant changes occur,” Mantshantsha added.

Eskom re-introduced stage six load shedding last week after several generating units depleted. It comes after the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) had deployed some of its members to Eskom power stations.
