The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Eastern Cape has launched a manhunt for a woman it believes set fire to five shacks in Missionvale, near Algoa Park in Gqeberha.

The incident is believed to have occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, 13 March 2022, and stems from a bitter lovers’ quarrel. The 25-year-old woman had threatened to burn down her boyfriend’s shack during a spat. But he would later learn that it was more than just a mere threat when he was informed about his home being on fire. The fire caused much more harm than the woman probably anticipated, spreading to four other sharks and three vehicles.

“It is alleged that earlier on the evening of 12 March 2022, the complainant (25) and his girlfriend had an argument where she allegedly threatened to burn down his shack at Rolihlahla Squatter Camp. The complainant ignored the threat and went to a nearby tavern with friends.  At about 01:30 this morning, he was informed that his shack was alight. The fire spread to four other shacks. All the shacks were completely gutted. Three other vehicles that were in the complainant’s yard were also destroyed,”
