City of Cape Town departments evacuated learners and residents from a school in Faure. Updates about the weather impacts of the heavy overnight and morning rain continue to roll in.

Learners and residents of St Paul’s Primary School were evacuated by Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management and the Fire Department.
Disaster Risk Management Centre spokesperson Charlotte Powell said the St Paul’s Anglican Church would accommodate the evacuees.

As previously reported, an Eskom substation in Somerset West was flooded after the Lourens River overflowed. This resulted in a power outage that left much of the Helderberg area in the dark.
At 12:31 MayCo member for Energy in Cape Town, Beverly van Reenen, provided an update and said supply had been restored to at least 60% of the affected areas.

“The fire department is assisting Eskom with pumping water out at the flooded Louren’s River substation.
“We thank customers for their patience while our teams work with Eskom to have this matter resolved promptly,” said the Councillor.
