Hundreds of people are flocking to the beaches in the Amanzimtoti area as sardine fever hits KwaZulu-Natal. According to a report by the SouthCoast Sun, boats have been launching at Amanzimtoti Main Beach on Tuesday and hauling huge shoals back to shore. Jace Govender, beach manager, boat captain, and seine boss for his group of netters, successfully brought in about 800 crates already. Every year holidaymakers, fishermen, and residents flock to the beaches to catch a glimpse of the spectacle, dubbed the Greatest Shoal on Earth. This includes sharks‚ birds, and dolphins in a feeding frenzy as they prey on the sardines. On Monday, the South Coast Tourism & Investment Enterprise (SCTIE) confirmed that sardines had arrived on the KZN South Coast.
