Body of a man recovered following flash floods in KwaZulu-Natal

A body of an unidentified man was recovered at a river in KwaZulu-Natal. It is not yet confirmed if the man drowned over the weekend.

The body of an unidentified man has been recovered in a river on Industrial Park Drive in Redfern in KwaZulu-Natal.

The body was recovered on Monday, 15 January. 

UNIDENTIFIED BODY RECOVERED IN KWAZULU-NATAL 

Private security Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) spokesperson Prem Balram said a passer-by flagged down one of its members at approximately 11:42 after he had made the discovery. 

Balram said Reaction officers and paramedics proceeded to the river and discovered the man’s body under a culvert.

“Most of his body was wrapped in debris. The deceased is believed to have drowned following Saturday night’s torrential rains and floods but this is yet to be confirmed.

“A RUSA helicopter is currently searching for a man who is presumed to have drowned after attempting to traverse a flooded bridge in Mhlasini also in KwaZulu-Natal,” Balram said on Monday.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS AND HEAVY RAIN PERSIST

Meanwhile, the South African Weather Service has issued a yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours, hail, and strong winds in northern areas in KwaZulu-Natal.

The warning is for Tuesday, 16 January.
