Elon Musk, the owner of X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, announced in a tweet on Friday that users will no longer be able to block other accounts.

Blocking will still be allowed for direct messages, according to Musk, who last year paid $44 billion to acquire Twitter and is in the process of upgrading the social media platform. However, blocking will no longer be considered a “feature.”

How the ‘blocking’ mechanism was helping people?

A common safety mechanism that enables users to safeguard themselves from unwanted interactions on X is blocking. It makes sure that blocked accounts won’t be able to see your postings and won’t have their updates appear in your feed. The prohibited account is unable to message you directly either.

People can still mute other accounts, which prevents them from seeing that user’s posts. A muted account, however, is still able to see the person’s postings, comment on them, and repost them to their own followers.

Additionally, muted accounts can still send direct messages.

What has Musk done, since he acquired the company?

Since he acquired the company, Musk has reversed Twitter’s security measures.
Additionally, he dismissed content moderators and unbanned users who had previously broken the rules. A 50% decrease in ad revenue might be attributed to advertisers leaving the site.

X Chief Executive Officer Linda Yaccarino responded to complaints about how the modifications have impacted the platform’s safety by stating that “more than 99% of content users and advertisers see on Twitter is healthy.”

She hasn’t stated how the business determines what is “healthy” or how it defines it.
