Bester and Nandi 2.0, murder accused couple to remain in custody

A murder accused Soshanguve couple, Sibusiso Mahlangu 33, and Lerato Mahlangu 32, appeared at the Soshanguve Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

Plot to murder ex-lover for insurance money
They are facing charges of premeditated murder, defeating the administration of justice and fraud.
It is alleged that on 02 January 2022, the couple killed a man and burnt the body of the deceased at their house in Block HH, Soshanguve.

Thereafter, it is further alleged that the wife Lerato, obtained a fraudulent death certificate from the Department of Home Affairs.
It claimed that her husband Sibusiso, was murderd in the fire and later claimed life policies.
The couple was arrested on 20 April 2023, after the husband was found in possession of a stolen car in Hammanskraal.

Upon his arrest and processing, it was discovered that he was registered as deceased.
He will be appearing on 29 May 2023, for the Hammanskraal matter of faking his death at the Hammanskraal Magistrates’ Court.
‘Dead man found alive’
According to SowetanLive, the wife, Lerato, said that she was feeling nervous and scared as a packed gallery of community members were yelling slurs.
Her husband said that he had not done anything wrong and that he did not make any confession to the police.

According to the state, the pair planned the 2022 death of Sibusiso Sithebe, a man believed to be Lerato’s ex-lover.
A murder plot they allegedly carried out during a fire at their RDP home on January 2022.

In January 2022 after the murder, Mahlangu’s death was registered at home affairs, but at his funeral Sithebe’s body was instead buried.
It is also alleged that Lerato claimed from her husband’s policies while he was in fact alive.
