Xulu recently had his contract terminated by his former club Hapoel Tel Aviv last month, before returning to the country now training with AmaZulu.

Xulu now a free agent and training with AmaZulu

Xulu and Hapoel had made the decision to part ways even before the Israeli top flight season had ended, due to a player/coach disagreement. Due to the fact that the South African transfer window is closed, and that the former Kaizer Chiefs defender had his contract terminate outside the official transfer window, he would not be able to sign and be registered to play for AmaZulu and play for the Durban-based side in the DStv Premiership, from now until the end of the current season.

According to iDiskiTimes, however, current agreement between Xulu and AmaZulu is just to help the lanky centre back keep fit. Speaking of fitness, having made the latest Bafana Bafana squad despite the shenanigans, national team coach Hugo Broos has said he believes the player should still have enough endurance in his legs to take part in upcoming international friendlies against Guinea and France later this month.

In danger of missing AFCON qualifiers in June for Bafana Bafana

Where Broos is expecting Xulu to struggle, however, is much later in the year when Bafana Bafana commence their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign in June. Staying with AmaZulu and maybe playing a few friendly games for them, might just be the order of the next couple of months for Xulu, if he is to retain his place in the squad come that time.

It would also be interesting to see if Xulu, who has been a stalwart for Bafana Bafana under Broos, will still be allowed to start despite his recent inactivity. The national team is set to take on Guinea in Belgium before a crunch clash against the defending world cup champions France, in their own backyard, on the both the 25th and 29th of March respectively.
