Armed robbers stormed the church of the self-proclaimed Prophet Shepherd Bushiri on Saturday. Here is what happened.

Armed robbers stormed the church of the self-proclaimed Prophet Sheperd Bushiri on Saturday.

THE ARMED ROBBERY HAPPENED AT THE CHURCH OF PROPHET SHEPERD BUSHIRI

Police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said at 21:30 on Saturday evening, about ten Kamhlushwa branch members were gathered for the night vigil.

This happened at the ECG Ministries, The Jesus Nation Church in Mpumalanga.

“Whilst still waiting for other members, three robbers armed with handguns and their faces covered stormed the church and robbed members of an undisclosed amount of cash, 14 cell phones, personal bank cards, church’s back card and further demanded the personal identification numbers (PINs).”

THREE ARMED ROBBERS STORMED THE CHURCH

Mohlala said the robbers further robbed the congregants of two vehicle keys and managed to flee the scene with one of the robbed white VW Polo Vivo. The VW Polo Vivo was later found abandoned at Mzinti, about seven kilometres from the robbed church.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has already gathered the team of investigators to work on the case.

Last month, a live stream captured an armed robbery at a church in KwaZulu-Natal during service.

LAST MONTH A CHURCH IN KZN WAS ROBBED

According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) spokesperson Prem Balram, the robbery happened on Thursday evening at a church on Spring Road in Tea Estate.

“The live stream was being viewed by individuals throughout South Africa and India when five armed men stormed the church and held up members of the congregation. The robbers made off with valuables and three vehicles.”

THE ROBBERY WAS CAPTURED ON A LIVE STREAM

He said members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) recovered a maroon Toyota Corolla abandoned in Amatikwe in KwaZulu-Natal at approximately 20:28.
