The long-running soap opera ‘7de Laan’ recorded its final episode on Friday after an illustrious 23-year run.

7DE LAAN RECORDED ITS FINAL EPISODE

The show’s creators and cast bid farewell to their loyal viewers on Friday and celebrated the end of a cherished era in local entertainment.

“Today marks the final day of recording 7de Laan. It has been our honour to serve South Africa and beyond with our talent and stories. Hold onto your seats because the end is worth the watch! Thank you, South Africa.”

THE FIRST EPISODE AIRED IN 2000

The beloved series, which first graced South African screens on April 4, 2000, was the brainchild of Danie Odendaal and captured the hearts of audiences across the nation.

Over the years, ‘7de Laan’ introduced audiences to a host of iconic characters, including Oubaas, Hilda, Charmaine, Aggie, Emma, and the Meintjies family, who have become household names in the country’s entertainment landscape.

THE SHOW AND CHARACTERS BECAME HOUSEHOLD NAMES IN SA

Set in the fictional Hillside suburb of Johannesburg, the show began with a single weekly episode before expanding to five days a week. It played a pivotal role in launching the careers of numerous actors, both on and off the screen, leaving an indelible mark on the South African television industry.

Throughout its existence, ‘7de Laan’ garnered numerous accolades, including the Outstanding Female Villain Award, which was awarded to Deirdre Wolhuter for her portrayal of Mariaan Welman.
