The Gauteng Education Department (GDE) has, once again, kept parents and guardians in the loop regarding applications under the 2022 online admissions. While Phase 1 applications came to an end on 3 September 2021, Phase 2 is loading for prospective Grade 1 and Grade 8 learners. Here’s what you need to know.

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) says Phase 2 applications under the 2022 Online Admissions will begin on Monday 13 September 2021 on www.gdeadmissions.gov.za at 8:00 and end on Friday 8 October 2021.

If you’re not sure what Phase 2 is, this is for parents and guardians with children going to Grade 1 or Grade 8 in the 2022 academic year but are currently not in a public school in Gauteng.

Not to worry, parents and guardians who were not able to apply on time during Phase 1, for learners in Grade 7 at public schools in Gauteng, will be able to apply under Phase 2.

Parents and guardians applying in Phase 2 under the 2022 online admissions are urged to prepare the following documentation and ensure that it is all certified and correct:

  • Parent and child ID or passport;
  • Refugee Permit;
  • Asylum Seeker Permit;
  • Permanent Residence Permit;
  • Study Permit;
  • Your South African Birth Certificate;
  • Proof of Home Address;
  • Proof of Work Address;
  • Latest School Report; and
  • Clinic Card/Immunization Card (Grade 1 only).

“We urge parents and guardians to upload these documents onto the system or submit them at the school(s) they applied to within seven days of applying. It is also important that parents enter the correct details onto the system when applying,” the GDE said in a statement.

When Phase 1 applications officially closed on Friday 3 September 2021, the GDE had recorded a total of 351 169 applications.

“We express our gratitude towards parents and guardians who managed to successfully apply, and the patience they displayed throughout the process. We also wish to thank our entire GDE team who helped make Phase 1 applications a success,” said GDE spokesperson Steve Mabona.

The GDE team will also be available for assistance during Phase 2 applications under 2022 online admissions on all their social media platforms, their decentralised walk-in centres and their call centre on 0800-000-789.

“We have outdone ourselves this year, not just as the department, but as stakeholders, as parents and as guardians in having made the new two-phased approach a success so far. We wish every parent and guardian applying under Phase 2 the very best and we assure them that our team will be there to assist them every step of the way,” said Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi.
