The City of Cape Town shared details of the planned 12-hour water cuts for maintenance to enhance water infrastructure starting Wednesday, 24 January.

The Water and Sanitation Directorate will repair and upgrade specific areas, including Bloekoembos, Wallacedene, Sandringham, Belmont Park, Klein Begin, Peerless Park, Eikendal, Claremont, and Strand.

12-HOUR WATER CUTS IN THESE AREAS

Scheduled for Wednesday, 24 January, from 6:00 to 18:00, the Wemmershoek Water Treatment Plant will temporarily shut down for maintenance, impacting water supply to various regions.

Residents are urged to limit water usage, and alternative arrangements have been made for affected municipalities and private consumers.

Thursday, 25 January, will see temporary water shutdowns in Claremont, affecting areas between Stan Hope Street and Protea Street, Main Road, Cavendish Road, Station Road, and surroundings.

Maintenance work to replace isolation valves may cause disruptions and low water pressure.

Simultaneously, in Strand, the main water supply will be halted from 10:00 to 17:00 for safe water meter installation, resulting in temporary water supply disruptions.

CITY WARNS OF TEMPORARY DISCOLORATION

Residents are advised to store enough water in sealed containers during maintenance and keep taps closed to prevent water loss and damage upon restoration.

“The City regrets any inconvenience and ensures careful planning to minimize disruptions.”

Residents should be aware that after the water supply is restored, there may be temporary discolouration or a milky appearance due to trapped air in the pipes, which will clear up over time.
