Cats are the best. If you’re reading this and you’re a dog person, we’ll have to agree to disagree. However, whether you’re more inclined to feline or canine companionship, we can all agree the world would be a better place if more people adopted instead of shopped for their pets.

One such person is Francisca Franken, who took in one of her local shelter’s more unusual-looking fur babies and is over the moon with her decision.

“I saw her photo and fell in love the second I saw her. Well, at first, I laughed because the pictures were so funny, and I’d never seen a cat like this before,” said Franken.

She looked like she was 20+ pounds and a genuine rough street gangster. So naturally, I had to meet her. I sent them an email with personal information and stuff and really tried my best to make it as informative as possible so they would pick me to adopt her.

Franken was looking to adopt a cat when she moved to the city and finally had enough space. One cat in particular, whose looks meant she’d been in the shelter for nearly a month waiting to be chosen for a forever home, caught her eye.

I couldn’t sleep all night because I was so nervous and sent her picture to all my friends. She was described as a feisty little diva, who had some health problems due to being an exotic shorthair.

One lovely friend of mine said, ‘well, (she is) exotic indeed,’ and that stuck with me forever.” said Franken. The cat named Bean was found in a trailer park with an eye infection, struvite stones, and the start of a blockage.

Franken was concerned at first that she wouldn’t be allowed to take Bean home due to the exotic-looking furball’s health problems. Eventually, though Franken managed to adopt unwanted stray and the rest, as they say, is history.

“The people from the shelter told me to keep her in one room for the first two days, so she could adapt without stress. So when I bought the scratching tree and tried to bring it into the room, she just escaped and started exploring the apartment.”

There was no way I could keep her in just that one room for several days. She is very sneaky and tried to find ways out all the time. So I just let her, because she wanted to.

She adapted well and spent the first night next to me in the bedroom, and has been sleeping by my side ever since. You can follow along on Bean’s journey, Franken shares all of Bean’s adventures on Instagram.
