SA organ donor campaign goes viral on #Save7Lives day

International #Save7Lives day was yesterday, and the perfect day for an organ donor campaign launched earlier this week to go viral.

SA organ donor campaign goes v

Love Life; Gift Life (LLGL) started the social media campaign which encourages family and friends of people who have received organ donations to post a picture of themselves holding up a sign indicating whose life has been saved.

Pictures of people from all over the world have been flooding the page and helping to highlight the fact that one organ donor can potentially save seven lives.

Started in April this year, by a group of friends who are passionate about organ donation and organ donor awareness, the focus is to share stories of transplant recipients, people who are on the waiting list, and families who have shared a loved one’s organs.

The LLGL team members want to show what a positive impact organ donation can have: “By attaching faces to the stories, we add a personal element which resonates with donor families as it gives the family a chance to see how important and life-changing saying ‘Yes’ to organ donation can be.”

At this stage, not even 1% of our population is registered as an organ donor. The campaign is hoping to increase that figure tremendously, by making people aware of the fact that organ donation saves not only seven lives per donor but affects thousands of lives of people whose loved ones can receive another chance at life.

The campaign is still running, and the public is encouraged to show continued support. For more information, or to post your picture on the site, go to Love Life; Gift Life.
