The Royal family announced on Tuesday that “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie was safely delivered of a son today”, at 8:55 local time on 9 February 2021. Princess Eugenie and the baby boy are both doing well.

As per the announcement shared on Instagram, the young tot was born at the Portland Hospital. Both Eugenie and her older sister, Princess Beatrice, had been born there. It’s also where Meghan Markle gave birth to baby Archie.

As is tradition, Queen Elizabeth had been informed first, followed by Prince Philip, then Eugenie’s parents – The Duke of York and Sarah the Duchess of York – and Jack’s parents.

“Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie was safely delivered of a son today, 9th February 2021, at 0855hrs at The Portland Hospital. Jack Brooksbank was present. The baby weighs 8lbs 1oz”.

As reported by People, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle privately congratulated the couple. This is The Duke of York and Sarah the Duchess of York’s first grandchild, as well as the ninth great-grandchild for Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

Breaking Royal tradition

Princess Eugenie has since shared a photo on Instagram, a black-and-white image of the princess holding her son’s hand. She captioned the post with three blue heart emojis.

The couple reportedly broke Royal Tradition with this sweet snap. The couple posted the photo a few hours after their son had been born, which is a hard left from royal tradition. Zoe Forsey from The Mirror explains:

“Traditionally, new royal parents introduce their babies to the world on the steps outside the hospital, posing for photos and the world’s media.”

Within an hour, the post had received more than 250 000 likes and more than 10 000 comments.

Wedded bliss

Princess Eugenie and Jack tied the knot at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle back in October 2018, and have been quietly enjoying married life. They announced the pregnancy on social media on 25 September 2020.

The sweet photo showed the couple holding a fluffy pair of baby bear slippers, and the caption informed readers that “Jack and I are so excited for early 2021”.
