National Lottery Operator, Ithuba, has confirmed that KwaZulu Natal (KZN) has a new multi-millionaire lottery winner. The only problem is that the person has not come forward to collect their prize. Now, there are many of us wishing we could collect for them but nevertheless, we will celebrate their good fortune.

The player won a whopping R5.2 million from the Lotto PLUS 2 draw that took place on 15 February 2020.

The winning ticket was purchased at Checkers in Margate on the corner of Watski Drive and Windsor Avenue. The winner apparently spent R800 and used a manual selection method.

The winning numbers were; three, 11, 13, 18, 39, 48 with 23 being the bonus number.

Lottery winner has not yet come forward

The winner has not yet contacted Ithuba to claim their winnings, however, the operator anticipates that they will come soon.

“We encourage all players who bought their tickets at Checkers in Margate to check their tickets as this could be a life-changing opportunity for them. Once we have validated the winning ticket, our first step will be to offer them trauma counselling to ensure they are equipped to deal with their newfound wealth which will change their lives drastically,” said Ithuba.

“This will be followed by extensive financial advice to assist the winner with their financial planning in order for them to become financially stable and create financial wealth for generations to come,” said Executive for Corporate Relations at Ithuba, Khensani Mabuza.

KZN seems to be the province of luck — since the beginning of February 2020, it has seen over eight players win big across various National Lottery games.

As with all winners above R50 000, they were offered free financial advice and trauma counselling by Ithuba.

Here’s how long a winner has to claim

According to Ithuba, winners have exactly 365 days from the date of the draw to cash in that ticket. If you leave it for more than a year, you miss out on becoming a millionaire.

Once the deadline has passed, the money will be withheld by Ithuba and the millions will be distributed between various charity organisations. The winnings will not go back into the game.

According to the experts, the chances of winning a lottery is one in over 42 million.

According to Business Tech, the odds of becoming a lottery winner is slim. A single Powerball play will cost you R5 and the overall odds of winning a prize is one in 18.

However, there are 42 375 200 different combinations that one can play when choosing five out of 50 numbers and one out of 20 numbers. This means that you can expect to pay R211 876 000 for a guaranteed chance of winning the lottery.
