KFC and Pringles recently decided to raise awareness for the Movember movement by shaving their signature moustaches.

Colonel Sanders is said to be unrecognizable in a promotion for KFC France’s no-shave November – or rather Movember – campaign.

The moustached mascot for the fast-food chicken chain is sporting a clean-shaven look for the month of November in support of a mustache-growing awareness initiative that raises funds for men’s health.

Movember rules explained

“Movember rules: Start on day one with a clean shave, let your moustache grow for a whole month,” the chain advised fast-food fans in a promo crafted in partnership with creative agency Sid Lee Paris.

The fast-food chain also rolled out new bags, packaging and buckets of chicken with the Colonel’s new clean-shaven look, joining with a number of brands that have also edited their mascot’s signature look in solidarity with the men’s health charity event.

A trend

It seems as if the ‘trend’ is carrying through as the American brand of stackable potato-based chips, Pringles also ditched its mascot’s moustache for the first time in 25 years.

Yes, Mr P, the iconic face of Pringles, will be taking part in the month-long challenge by shaving off his moustache. It is said that Pringles will also be donating money to the Movember organisation; pledging to fund some of its innovative work in mental health, including its new Movember Conversations tool. By adopting Pringles’ ethos of ‘Pop, Share, Chat’, the campaign is aimed at highlighting important conversations around men’s mental health and encouraging Pringles fans to get involved in the ‘Big Movember Showdown’, just like Mr P.

YOUR MO WILL SAVE A BRO

The move comes after the global men’s health organisation, Movember, said that participation in this year’s movement will be ‘the most important’ one yet.

“Our work in mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer has never been more important – and we’ve never needed you more,” the non-profit organisation says on their official website. “It’s been a tough year,” they also reflect on Facebook. “No one could have predicted it and no one could have prepared for it. Now more than ever we must come together and do some good for the world. And there’s no reason we can’t have fun doing it.”

It is said that research conducted by Movember shows the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on men’s mental health is particularly concerning, and it is still far from over. Job losses, relationship stresses and social isolation are continuing to take a toll. In response, the organisation has been working hard to fast-track digital mental health resources, to address the need.

Therefore, every donation, no matter how small adds up. Signing up for Mo-season is also great way to stay connected within your own social circles, as it’s been shown that supporting others can improve your own wellbeing.
