Tuesday 3 March 2020 just happens to be the last year of Julius Malema’s 30s, but what we all want to know is, how the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader will celebrate his birthday.

When we hear that it’s a politician’s birthday or even a celebrity, there’s a bit of confusion. It’s hard to picture someone like Malema, who’s constantly in the spotlight to be blowing out candles and getting lipstick kisses from a distant aunt he hasn’t seen in two years.

Nevertheless, celebrities and politicians are human too and nine times out of 10, they have celebrated birthdays just as us mortals do — at least once.

Malema chooses family

Twitter users took to wishing Malema on Tuesday but we’re all wondering what he’s going to do on this special occasion.

TheSouthAfrican.com in conversation with EFF spokesperson Vuyani Pambo asked what the EFF leader would be doing for the day. Pambo said this year, Malema has decided to spend time with his family at home in Johannesburg.

When it comes to birthdays, Malema doesn’t seem to go all out. In fact, he either spends it contributing to a charity or spending time with loved ones.

His loved ones include his wife. Mantwa Malema. and his three sons Ratanang, Munzhedzi and Kopani.

Here’s what Malema did for his birthday last year

Malema topped Twitter trends on his 38th birthday in 2019.

Nothing outlandish, he and his family spent the day at the Entokozweni Day Care Centre in Orange Farm, Johannesburg, where the Red Berets renovated the facility.

The EFF said the creche, which was founded almost three decades ago and had never received any funding from the government, which was why members spent Malema’s birthday ensuring the centre received renovations.

A total of 40 children between the ages of one and six years attend the crèche under the care of three teachers.

Supporters on Twitter congratulate him

Just like last year, many EFF supporters, as well as general fans, decided to praise Malema and wish him well. Many congratulated Malema calling him “commander in chief (CIC), leadership and Juju.”

“Happy Birthday my Leader. Son of the soil.”
