The paternal grandmother of Joslin Smith has spoken out about her desire to harm the child’s mother, Kelly Smith, who is facing charges of kidnapping and child trafficking.

The elderly woman – whose son is Jose Emke, Joslin’s biological father – has spoken out two months after the Saldanha Bay girl went missing.

On 19 February, the six-year-old went missing from her home in the informal settlement of Middelpos in the coastal town.

Kelly, her boyfriend Jacquin “Boeta” Appollis, and their two friends, Lourentia Lombard and Steveno Van Rhyn, were arrested and are currently in custody over the charges.

Joslin has yet to be found.

Speaking to eNCA, Joslin Smith’s paternal grandmother, Loretta Yon, admonished Kelly Smith for her involvement in the child’s disappearance.

She said: “I wanted to kill Kelly. Why would they do this to the child? If you love somebody, you won’t hurt them. For me it’s very hard”.

Loretta claimed that Joslin and her little sister were “withheld” from seeing her.

She added: “If I get a chance to go to Pollsmoor, I’m going to ask her [Kelly] questions she won’t like.”

According to Cape Argus, Loretta claimed her son’s health had deteriorated since Jolsin went missing.

“My son said his epilepsy has worsened. I am trying to be strong”.

The grandmother added that their family had hope that Joslin was still alive,

She added: “We have hope that Joshlin will be found. I believe she is still alive, especially because a body has not been found. I would have been happy, even if we found her body, for closure.

“We want Kelly and others to tell the truth and tell us where the child is.”

Meanwhile, a mystery WhatsApp voicenote has been circulating on social media of a woman who claimed to have been imprisoned alongside Joslin Smith’s mother, Kelly.

The woman claims that Kelly told her that Joslin was located at a local shack belonging to a sangoma. According to the voicenote, the child was placed in a drain underneath the shack.

Diazville councillor Vernon Vraagom told IOL claimed that the police had followed up on the lead but to no avail.

He said: “We had to follow that lead because we were desperate to find the girl. We just want closure.

“It has been two months, and no positive lead. We may say we don’t trust Kelly, but we have to listen and search.”

In an update earlier this month, Minister of Police Bheki Cele revealed police were working with Interpol. A ship in Wales had been searched, reported  Daily Maverick, but no evidence of a missing person was found.
