Summer is in full-swing and it’s time for a braai. However, sometimes you want to try something different and seafood is quicker to grill and always delicious. Grilled sardines or herrings are often enjoyed all over the world as a snack, especially along the South African coast. Our sardines with mustard sauce is crispy, light and the perfect way to get the feast started.

Sardines with mustard sauce tips

You can now easily get fish that has already been cleaned so your job is already easier. If you have smaller fish, the heads are however often kept on. The sauce is a quick white sauce that’s creamy and perfect for dipping. The fish are great on a hot skillet but even better when thrown onto the braai. Serve with the mustard sauce and some jalapeno poppers or fried chilies if you want to go the Mediterranean route.
