Not much time on hand to prepare a sweet delicacy for your guests? This milk tart tartlets recipe will certainly come to the rescue. They are non-baked, dainty and an easy delicious plate filler.

Milk tart is a very traditional South African dessert. It consists of a creamy custard filling poured into a sweet pastry crust. Some recipes require the custard to be baked in the crust. But this recipe only requires the custard to be made separately and then poured into the crust. To serve, sprinkle the milk tart tartlets with crushed kit-kat, chocolate bits or luscious strawberries.

Within 35 minutes you can have this tempting sweet treat ready to serve with a cup of tea. They can also be enjoyed as dessert after lunch. And some people may even have one for breakfast too!

Ingredients

  • 24 24 pre-baked tartlet moulds (medium)

  • 500 ml 500 milk

  • 2 tablespoons 2 butter

  • 1 tablespoon 1 flour

  • 1 tablespoon 1 custard powder

  • 2 2 eggs

  • ½ cup ½ sugar

  • ½ teaspoon ½ vanilla essence

  • 1 1 crushed milk tart flavoured kit-kat chocolate

Method

  • In a bowl, mix the eggs, sugar, vanilla and dry ingredients.
  • In a saucepan, heat the milk and butter. Add the egg mixture, stirring continuously until a thick mixture is formed. Set aside to cool.
  • Pour the mixture into a piping bag. Using a big nozzle, fill the moulds. Sprinkle with the kit-kat chocolate and garnish with chocolate bits or strawberries.
