You’ve seen it on restaurant menus in the starter section and always want to make them yourself. We’re here to show you how to make your own tasty, creamy peri-peri chicken livers. They are quick and easy to make as a starter for a party or you can even make a whole dinner out of them. If you love spicy things, you can adjust the heat like you want to. It’s a great recipe to warm you and your family up this winter.

Creamy peri-peri chicken livers tips

Making sure your chicken livers are nice and browned and cooked will reduce the cooking time. If you want to turn it into a whole dinner, saute some onions, finely chopped green pepper and garlic before adding the livers. Add a can of tomatoes and half a cup of chicken stock and simmer for 30 minutes. Reduce the liquid and add the cream with 10 minutes to go. Serve with fresh ciabatta bread on the side.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons 2 butter

  • 500 g 500 chicken livers cleaned and trimmed

  • 3 cloves 3 garlic, crushed

  • 3-4 tbsp 3-4 peri-peri sauce

  • juice of 1 lemon

  • ½ cup ½ cream

  • salt and pepper to taste

  • chopped parsley to serve

  • crusty bread to serve

Method

  • In a very hot skillet/frying pan, melt the butter and fry the chicken livers until golden brown on both sides.
  • Add the garlic and peri-peri sauce and allow to fry for another minute until fragrant then add the lemon juice and cream.
  • Season with salt and pepper and allow to simmer for 5 – 7 minutes.
  • Serve with crusty bread.
