Bacon Halloumi Skewers

A great South African favourite braai starter are called “oopsies”, also known as bacon and cherry skewers. They tend to fall a part a bit and drop cherries, hence the name. However, you can have something similar, with way less stress and twice the experience because it’s got cheese in it! These Bacon halloumi skewers are smokey, cheesy and sweet which will wake up your taste buds for a braai that might go on for a while.

Bacon halloumi skewers suggestions

Thee reason halloumi is so great on the fire is that it has a very high melting point so it holds its shape with heat, to a point. The bacon will also hold it together whille adding some crunch, especially with the sweet caramelized glaze you put over top. If you want to add an extra element, add black pepper and paprika as a light sprinkle for the halloumi before wrapping it with the streaky bacon. Serve them while they are still hot and enjoy each bite.
