Paris Fashion Week has just wrapped up, but we’re still not over the weird and wonderful looks seen on the runway and by the industry’s biggest stars. But taking the prize for the most bizarre look this season, is Schiaparelli, which featured “faux taxidermy” designs in their fashion show…

The French fashion house made headlines with their realistic, life-size animal heads, incorporated into their haute couture designs.

On Monday, the Schiaparelli Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2023 took place during Paris Fashion Week. And sitting front row were guests like Kylie Jenner and Doja Cat.

The reality TV star wore a strapless black velvet dress, with gold accessories. But stealing the show was what appeared to be a severed lion’s head.

Kylie’s look – the brainchild of Schiaparelli designer Daniel Roseberry – dominated the show, with many models wearing various life-like animal “heads” in their couture gowns.

According to the designer, the theme of the Schiaparelli show was inspired by Italian poet Dante Alighieri, and his literary piece Inferno.

“The leopard, the lion, and the she-wolf—representing lust, pride, and avarice”, Roseberry shared in his design notes.

Roseberry added that the designs were “hand sculpted from foam, resin, wool and silk faux fur.” He added that they were hand painted to “look as life-like as possible”.

But in case anyone was wondering, the bold fashion creator insisted that “no animals were harmed in making this look”.

Whilst fashion critics were amazed at the level of craftsmanship delivered in Schiaparelli’s designs, social media users were not impressed.

@nunocalderone: “Does anyone actually think this is pretty? All it does is bother me; I truly dislike it.”

@saintdoII: “The animal-themed looks at the show were camp and с*nt.”

@lelyaac: “They really think it is cool to simulate the head of a dead animal that is hunted for centuries on a dress? Can’t believe that this is considered fashion!”

@somewherenearr: “It feels weird & wrong”

Meanwhile, animal activists Pete jumped in the comments section, surprisingly giving the Schiaparelli looks the thumbs up.

Their official account tweeted: “While these heads are fake and hopefully celebrating the beauty of animals, not glorifying the violence of trophy hunting — we encourage everyone to use 100% vegan and cruelty-free designs that showcase human ingenuity and prevent animal suffering”.
