In a perfect world, we would all head to the salon, treat ourselves to a gorgeous face mask and just chill on the couch in bliss like supermodel Chrissy Teigen.

However, regular spa visits may not be realistic right now. Many also might not have the desire, time or money to run to the pharmacy to buy a new face mask every week.

Face masks are still a great way to nourish and tone your skin.

Why not head into the kitchen and see what items you can use for these budget-friendly beauty hacks.

For sensitive skin: Yoghurt mask

This yoghurt face mask is suitable for those with sensitive skin who often experience redness.

The yoghurt base is rich in probiotics and soothing skin proteins. The cocoa powder is full of flavanols which will calm irritation, and honey tightens the skin. It is a gentle yet mighty formula.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl, smooth a thin layer over clean skin, and leave it on for about 10 minutes to get the full calming effects. Gently wash off.

For dull skin: Papaya mask

For days where your skin just looks off, try this DIY face mask. It will leave you with a soft, dewy, and glowing complexion.

The enzymes in the papaya are a natural exfoliator which removes dead skin cells, while the honey and egg white bind the mask together.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup mashed papaya
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 whipped egg white

Mix ingredient in a small bowl. Apply and leave it on clean skin for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse off with warm water.

For acne-prone skin: Banana mask

This mask has an anti-inflammatory formula. If you have mild to moderate acne, you might want to incorporate this mask into your regular routine.

It includes bananas which are packed with vitamin A, helping pores to stay clean. Turmeric wards off acne-causing bacteria, while baking soda absorbs excess oil in your skin.

Ingredients:

  • 1 mashed banana
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

Mix together and apply to clean, dry skin. Leave on for 10 minutes then rinse it off, making sure to moisturise afterward.

For oily skin: Oatmeal mask

The hero ingredient in this simple DIY face mask is oatmeal, which has both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. This helps to  calm skin and remove dead skin cells.

The acid in the lemon juice helps to remove excess oil and dead skin cells.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup cooked oatmeal, cooled
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl, then smooth a thin layer over clean skin. Leave it on for about 10 minutes to get the full calming effects.

For dry skin: Avocado mask

This nutritious avocado face mask will soothe, hydrate and calm your skin.

The omega fatty acids in avocado and olive oil help to seal cracks between skin cells. The other ingredients, like honey and yoghurt, soften and plump the skin.

Thise mask is quite sticky so be sure to rinse well around the hairline.

Ingredients:

  • 1 avocado
  • 2 tablespoons plain yoghurt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Apply it to clean, dry skin for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse it off. Make sure to moisturise well after.
