With just two months to go before Comic-Con Africa fills us all with joy, we’ll be recapping all the highlights from the San Diego Comic Con, which kicked off in the United States of America last night.

Comic-Con is one of the best places to turn to if you want to stay up to date with new movie releases. It’s only the first day of Comic-Con and the lineup so far definitely doesn’t disappoint.

From Stephen King’s IT and His Dark Materials to Top Gun: Maverick and Terminator: Dark Fate, here are some of the best new releases.

Film Highlights from Comic-Con

Top Gun: Maverick

Tom Cruise showed up at Comic-Con, much to everyone’s delight. He premiere the first trailer for Top Gun: Maverick, the long-awaited sequel to the fan-favourite fighter pilot film. SyFy, reporting live from the event, said:

“Who saw this coming? Everyone was just sitting there in Hall H, expecting literally anything else, when Tom Cruise just waltzes in and pops this baby on the big screen. Unexpected, but hardly unwelcome.”

Cruise took the stage and explained the practical effects of the film, as well as his outlook on the significance of the Top Gun franchise. No one was ready and it was everything they never knew they always needed.

His Dark Materials

I loved the books but the previous film was a bit of a disappointment so I for one am over the moon that HBO is releasing a series based on Philip Pullman’s award-winning trilogy of the same name.

It is considered a modern masterpiece of imaginative fiction. The first season of the much-anticipated series follows Lyra, a seemingly ordinary but brave young woman from another world.

Her search for a kidnapped friend uncovers a sinister plot involving stolen children, and becomes a quest to understand a mysterious phenomenon called Dust.

As she journeys through worlds, Lyra meets Will, a determined and courageous boy. They encounter extraordinary beings and dangerous secrets. And of course, the best one of them all: Iorek Byrnison, an armored bear.

IT: Chapter 2 at Comic-Con

Everyone’s most loved – no, most feared – demon clown thing is back. If you weren’t ready for Pennywise’s return, tough luck. It’s happening and the trailer will send chills down your spine.

Not only do we see more of Pennywise in this trailer, we also get the adult versions of all of the main characters from It: Chapter One – Bill Hader, Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, and the rest of the adult Losers.

Terminator: Dark Fate

“Welcome to the day after Judgment Day. Producer James Cameron returns with director Tim Miller for Terminator: Dark Fate. Watch the official trailer now. In theatres 11.1.19.”

Paramount showed new footage from Terminator: Dark Fate, which is a continuation of Judgement Day. It looks interesting, even if some of us still hold to the notion that Terminator isn’t Terminator without Schwarzenegger.

Natalia Reyes stars as Dani Ramos, a young woman who finds herself being a targeted by an advanced model of Terminator  that was sent back in time to kill her.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D at Comic-Con

Enjoy every moment of it, because Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D will come to an end soon. There are only four episodes left so brace yourselves mentally for a world without S.H.I.E.L.D.

The season six finale promises intriguing answers to the Coulson/Sarge storyline, even though we still don’t know exactly what is going on.

Jay and Silent Bob Reboot

There’s always place in the world for Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. The original first graced our screens nearly years ago, so some would say it’s about time.

Jay and Silent Bob Reboot follows the title characters as they discover Hollywood is attempting to remake an old movie based on their lives. They head out on a cross-country trip to stop the movie from being made.
