Things are a little different this year with Miss World. Usually, one of the Miss SA Top three represents South Africa at the Miss World pageant. However, this year there is a Miss World SA competition to find South Africa’s Miss World representative.

Why is there a Miss World SA pageant this year? As previously reported by The South African, the Miss SA Organisation did not renew it’s license with the international pageant.

Carol Bouwer Productions (CBP), owned by Carol Bouwer, has been given the license to host the Miss World SA pageant.

“They [Sun International] would basically upon hosting the Miss South Africa send someone to Miss World, Miss Universe, and Miss Supranational and various others,” she said according to Sunday World.

“Now the Miss World office has given CBP the responsibility to send a rep to them. It means the person that wins Miss SA this year cannot go to the Miss World pageant,” she continued.

The Miss World SA pageant will be hosted at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg, just a few kilometres from Soweto – as revealed by Bouwer at the Soweto Investment Conference in June.
