South African dancer and MC Uncle Vinny recently paid tribute to the late rapper, Riky Rick. The pair had a close relationship before the musician passed on after Riky basically introduced Uncle Vinny to the entertainment industry years ago. In his touching tribute to the rapper, Uncle Vinny recalled how they first met and how Riky would selflessly help him with money.

Uncle Vinny pays tribute to Riky Rick

After local musician and fashion icon Riky Rick committed suicide on 23 February this year, thousands of people paid tribute to him.

His death sent shockwaves across the South African entertainment industry as various artists expressed concern over the continuously decreasing level of good mental health in the country – especially amongst the rich and famous.

One of the people who has paid tribute to Riky Rick is the musician’s young protege, Kabelo Ndlovu who is better known by his stage name Uncle Vinny.

A heartfelt tribute

At a gathering held at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, Uncle Vinny took to the podium and shared how he met Riky Rick when he was only 15 years old.

“I was 15 and in grade 9 when I met Riky Rick and I’d tell everyone at school that he was my pops because I chilled with him.”

He also recalled how the rapper took him to a Nasty C concert and helped him with some money to get back home, adding that from that day on, Riky always helped him financially.

“Out of the blue, he told me to come to the car and when I got there he gave me R1000 to go back home. From that day he kept giving me money and making sure I’d be able to make it to gigs and would even sneak me in at gigs because I was too young to enter certain places.”
