Trevor Noah: SA tweeps praise star over White House gig [watch]

Trevor Noah hosted the White House Correspondent’s Dinner on Saturday night in the US, and according to South Africans, it’s his biggest gig yet.

The Soweto-born star became the first African to host the prestigious dinner, which was attended by US president Joe Biden.

And Trevor did not hold back as he has guests giggling – including Kim Kardashian and bae Pete Davidson – with his roasts and pokes.

The White House Correspondent’s Dinner is aimed at the presidency engaging with the American press and other distinguished guests.


With Trevor Noah at the helm of the evening, guests were thoroughly entertained – including President Biden, who was also roasted by the SA comedian

Taking to the stage, Trevor quipped that he felt privileged to host “the nation’s most distinguished superspreader event.”

Trevor also had a joke or two for Biden, which he told: “Ever since you’ve come into office, things are really looking up. Gas is up, rent is up, food is up. Everything.”

And The Daily Show host also poked fun at Donald Trump’s reign, stating: “This is the first time a president has attended this dinner in six years. It’s understandable, we had a horrible plague followed by two years of Covid”.

Trevor also touched on serious topics like the war in Ukraine, press freedom, and the challenges to democracy. 

But it was President Biden’s introduction of Trevor Noah that the audience giggling at the grand scheme of things.

He said to the amused star: “The really good news is, now you get to roast the president of the United States. And unlike in Moscow, you won’t go to jail.”


Following his stint at the White House, Trevor Noah trended on Twitter in South Africa, with many
