‘Skeem Saam’ actress opens up after ‘death’ rumours

‘Skeem Saam’ actress Lydia Mokgokoloshi, who plays Koko Mantsha urges people to stop spreading ‘death’ rumours about her.

Skeem Saam actress Lydia Mokgokoloshi, who plays the character of Koko Mantsha in the soapie says she’s hurt by ‘death’ rumours.

The veteran actress Lydia Mokgokoloshi, who is popularly known for her role in Bophelo ke Semphekgo tells Daily Sun that she’s happy her Skeem Saam team is standing up for her.

“I’m happy that my team at Skeem Saam stood up for me and Limpopo Artist Movement. People must not play with other’s emotions like that.”

The 83-year-old actress added she’s still alive, happy in her home and hurt by the death rumours. She also urges people to not play games with people’s brands for their gains.

This comes after the show rubbished claims made by @SSiTVSA on Friday, 9 June that the award-winning actress Lydia Mokgokoloshi has passed away,

@SSiTVSA shared an article on Twitter and reported: “R.I.P Veteran actress Lydia Mokgokoloshi is best known for her roles in Sepedi drama Bophelo ke Semphekgo and SABC1 soapie Skeem Saam as Koko.”

@SkeemSaam3 replied: “Hi. Please remove this. This is NOT true.”

Sowetan reported in July 2020 that the legendary actress has taken a break from acting after playing Koko Mantsha since 2011.

The soapie’s spokesperson Sumanya Mogola said: “She will still be in and out of the story. She just won’t be shooting as much as she used to. Our shooting schedule gets really hectic at times and we don’t want to wear her out. She is at a very sensitive age so she needs as much rest, care and comfort as possible.”

Limpopo Artists Movement chairman, Mphoza Mashabela tells Daily Sun that they were heartbroken over Skeem Saam actress Lydia Mokgokolosi’s death hoax.

The organisation also urges South Africans to desist from fabricating such heartbreaking news as its insensitive and shows disrespect.

LAM spokesperson Ndivhuyo Luvhengo said: “The leadership of LAM has spoken to the family of Koko and herself in a telephonic engagement and can confirm that she is well.”

This is the second time the Skeem Saam actress Lydia Mokgokoloshi falls victim to a death hoax. as a fake and unverified SABC 1 Facebook page also wished her dead in 2021.

The soapie also rubbished the death hioax reports in 2021 on their Twitter account and said: “Beware of fake news. Granny is alive and well.”
