The GQ Men of the Year Awards were held on Saturday 27 November at the Four Seasons Hotel, The Westcliff in Johannesburg. Several South African stars were honoured at the event including the late Shona Ferguson, amapiano superstar Focalistic and Paralympian Ntando Mahlangu. Jazz legend Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse was honoured with the Hennessy Lifetime Achievement award.

The GQ Men of the Year Awards celebrate South African men and women who have inspired, led and shaped the cultural landscape.
Speaking to Bizcommunity, GQ South Africa editor-in-chief Molife Kumona said although South Africa has been navigating the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been several significant cultural moments, “and a group of individuals who have risen above the chaos to excel and inspire those around them,” he added.
“In publicly acknowledging them, we are looking to share their message far and wide so as to influence – for the better – creating what we hope will be a ripple effect on South African society at large.”
The awards were hosted by television presenter Claire Mawisa after Unathi Nkayi was dropped as the host following her exit from Kaya 959.
Jazz legend Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse was honoured with the Hennessy Lifetime Achievement Award. The jazz legend stunned in a classic black tuxedo and treated all the guests to a performance of some of his biggest hits including the classic Burn Out.
