Simphiwe Ngema, a local actress and singer, has been a big topic this week due to a since-deleted remark she made in which she acknowledged visiting convicted murderer and rapist Thabo Bester in jail.

In a recent Instagram Story, the former “Muvhango” actress expressed her gratitude to individuals who had reached out to her amid the social media frenzy she had gone through.

She wrote:

“Thank you to everyone who has been supportive during this time. I’ve read your messages, your dms, your WhatsApp’s.”

Simphiwe Ngema admitted visiting Bester in prison because he owed her money in a statement, she made on Instagram earlier this past week. She soon removed the declaration from her verified account.

“I only visited Thabo Bester on one occasion”, Simphiwe Ngema

Simphiwe Ngema, an actress and media figure, has spoken out after social media users connected her jail visits to Thabo Bester’s prison break.

The Muvhango actress said in a statement that she did not frequently see Bester and that she was not the last person to see him before he ran away in 2016.

Simphiwe Ngema was charged with aiding Thabo Bester in his illicit operations while Shauwn ‘MaMkhize’ Mkhize, a South African socialite, TV personality, and entrepreneur, was defended on Twitter.

Then Ngema broke her silence, confessing that she had seen the convicted felon once only.

Ngema said that she went to Bester in 2018 to seek information from him since she was going through a very trying period at the time and he owed her money.

The actress continued by stating that she has documentation to support the fact that her visit was limited to a single time on April 5, 2018.

Simphiwe Ngema identified herself as one of Bester’s victims as she wrapped off her remarks.

Bester was visited by a number of celebrities

According to the publication, Bester’s jail records—which were made public last month as part of a parliamentary investigation into his escape—showed a number of female visitors from the time he arrived at the Mangaung Correctional Centre in 2013 until February 2022.

Before making a daring escape on May 3, 2022, his accomplice in crime, Dr Nandipha Magudumana, paid him one more visit.
