Scandal! Actress Gcina Nkosi who plays the role of Zinzile Ngema recently opened up about the financial struggles she faced during the first level 5 lockdown and her character’s current storyline.

The actress told TshisaLIVE that she wasn’t getting paid during those lockdown months because her contract states if she doesn’t work, she won’t get paid.

We didn’t shoot, we didn’t work. We have made contracts whereby no work = no pay.

We suffered a lot. We couldn’t do anything because we weren’t working, we couldn’t pay our rent, our lease, and all those things.

The lockdown also affected her emotionally because she didn’t see her family for several months because of the travel restrictions.

I couldn’t travel back home. I had to be in Joburg for three months away from my family and I am there alone. It was too much. I was affected a lot.

ZINZILE’S CURRENT STORYLINE

She told the publication that she believes a lot of viewers relate to her character now more than ever.

Her on-screen husband Mlungisi Ngema cheated on her with one of her closest friends Nonzi (Thandeka Nodada) .

Nonzi even faked her pregnancy, scammed the Ngemas out of their home, and fed Mlungisi love portion so he can divorce Zinzile.

Of course! It’s happening. Even your best friend ever, even the people who grew up with you, can cheat with your husband.

It’s happening. I think this is not new in real life.

The actress also advised viewers who are going through similar experiences to not relax in their relationships no matter what.

They must fight for their relationship. Especially if you see a threat, you must fight for your own thing.
