BECOMING A PRINCESS

Becoming a princess, for any woman or young girl sounds like the perfect happy ending to any fairytale story. While this may seem like a dream come true, the word “Princess” carries an enormous weight that is often bounded by power, responsibility and a whole lot of significance. That said, being a Princess doesn’t necessarily mean or equate to sitting pretty, well at least not for Princess Charlene of Monaco.

Throughout her career as a professional swimmer Princess Charlene has dedicated some of her time to underprivileged communities, specifically giving swimming lessons to underprivileged children.

And as a Princess, this is no different. When becoming the Princess of Monaco, she created a foundation that facilitates a plethora of initiatives and programmes to assist underprivileged communities in 33 countries including South Africa.

THE PRINCESS CHARLENE OF MONACO FOUNDATION

The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation focuses on teaching children how to swim, the importance of water safety education and provides exposure to physical and sporting activities.

In addition to this the foundation operates environmental conservation, education and feeding initiative programmes.

As per the foundations site: “The Foundation also uses the transformative power of the positive values of sport by giving children access to a variety of sporting disciplines through its Sport and Education initiatives, which include providing financial support to talented athletes who lack the funds to realise their dreams”.

Furthermore, Princess Charlene continues to contribute to many charitable causes like the Foundation for AIDS Research.

She was also once the patron of the South African Red Cross Society, the Giving Organisation Trust and the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
