Popular views often assume that the likes of Orlando Pirates offer the biggest salaries, but Benson Mhlongo can’t verify that.

The retired star, born in Alexandra Johannesburg, spent four seasons at the Buccaneers before moving on to places like Platinum Stars and Polokwane City.

Speaking via Marawa TV in recent times, the 42-year-old revealed that his highest income was R60 000 at Polokwane during the twilight of his career.
“The highest salary I had was R60 000. It was not even at a big club,” the player who was known as ‘Mayanga’ said.
“It was at Polokwane City before I retired. I did not even get that money at Sundowns. I did not because I just love football,” the former Alexandra United, SuperSport, Wits, Pirates and Sundowns, and Platinum Stars star added.
