Head of channel Bokani Moyo told TimesLIVE the channel has taken the necessary steps to ensure that Xolani Khumalo and the team are safe whenever they shoot the drug-busting TV show.

“MojaLOVE can confirm there have been some threats against the team working on Sizokuthola. The channel has put in place security measures to protect the team,” Moyo said.

Sunday World reported in May that Khumalo and the channel’s CEO, Aubrey Tau, have had to beef up security after receiving death threats from drug lords. The team was also attacked in June while shooting an episode at a nightclub in Rustenburg, North West.

Moyo said that the threats were being investigated, and viewers should not worry as the show has been paused due to a production break and not because of the threats.

VUYO ZUNGULA’S LETTER TO CELE AND LAMOLA

On Thursday, 12 July, Zungula wrote to the Minister of Police, Bheki Cele, and Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Ronald Lamola, in a bid to get protection for the Sizokthola host and production team.

“Xolani, because of his courageous work as host of Sizok’thola, has become the target of numerous threats to his life. In light of these circumstances, I implore you to take immediate action to ensure the safety of Xolani and the entire Sizok’thola production,” he said.

In his letter, Zungula said that there needs to be round the clock surveillance and any other necessary security measures to mitigate the risks they face. He further requested that those exposed on the show should be investigated and arrested.
